A sneak peek for this little guys' parents...
My first post on my new site! Thank you so much to everyone for your positive comments on my new logo and website, which was launched last week. It was a long time in the making and I am so thrilled to have a new look and a space to share my work.
I'm kicking things off with a family I photographed earlier this week. We finally have summer weather and it was great to start what feels like a new season with these four.
I met with these two on a grey, rather windy afternoon. Normally we would reschedule with weather like this, but their newest addition was expected to be making an appearance at any point, so we decided to take our chances. Thankfully the rain held off and we were not blown away. Lisa and I used to work together and it was so nice to catch up with her and to meet her beautiful daughter.
It's been awhile since I have posted anything of these two. The weather has been so strange lately, warm then cold, sunny then rainy. It was pouring while we ate dinner and the sky was dark enough that I closed the blinds and turned our front porch light on, feeling like were were shutting down for the night. We started the dinner clean up and the the girls took turns putting ingredients into a bowl for banana bread, and then brilliant sunlight suddenly flooded the back of our house. We dropped everything, pulled on our boots and headed outside.
I'm the crazy lady in our neighborhood, standing in the road yelling things like "If you look at me RIGHT NOW I'll let you have Halloween candy when we get home!!"
We returned to the smell of baking bread, a disaster of a kitchen, and puddles in our boots. And I was quickly reminded to fetch the box of left-over Halloween candy... of course.
This session is actually from last spring – almost a full year ago. These little babes just celebrated their first birthday and I'm looking forward to photographing them again soon!
March was a busy month for new babies! Now that I am caught up on all of my editing, I can share some of the lovely families I captured over the last few weeks. My favourite part of this session was the way this little guy's dad looked at his mom. It was pure adoration. At a time where they were probably feeling the most emotional and exhausted they have ever felt, he looked blissful staring at his wife. What a wonderful thing to witness.
It's this mom's first day on her own taking care of all three. While the majority of her days over the next few months will probably include an overwhelming number of diaper-changes, laundry piles, tears and cups of coffee – thankfully there will be moments like this which make it all worth it. And there's a glass of wine after bedtime. That helps too.
It has been a long, cold winter, but the one positive thing we can admit is that we've had beautiful sunshine (it comes hand in hand with the cold) and it's probably the brightest most of our homes have ever been with all the snow to reflect the light in. Just trying to stay positive over here :) So I was pretty happy when this family chose the winter for their session, and I was even happier when Mom mentioned that they have a backyard fireplace where they enjoy roasting marshmallows. And can you believe that she forgot to mention the tire swing? That was just a bonus when I showed up.
