The B Family | Toronto Family Photographer

I've been pleasantly surprised  by the number of inquires lately from those looking to capture their "extended" family. So often the only portraits we have with our parents or siblings are from our weddings, or significant events like the birth of a baby, and I don't know about you, but I was not looking too hot on the days either of my kids were born. Alternatively, we have selflies we've taken on our smart phones, which may get posted to Instagram or Facebook, but unless you are blessed with selfie-taking talent that results in photos that do not leave you with a double-chin or a view up your nose, chances are you are not printing and hanging these on the wall. So it's pretty awesome that more and more families are finding the time in their busy schedules to gather together for a morning or afternoon, and are having me tag along to capture their time with one another.

This family only had once chance at getting some family photos over the long weekend as they are separated by distances and it's rare they can all be together at the same time. Rain or shine (and it did pour rain), we had to make this happen. I joined them after their breakfast (homemade scones and a pot of tea were still on the table) and we spent our time in the backyard garden, briefly inside the house, and then a walk at a nearby park.

Baby A + Family | Toronto Newborn Photographer

I met this sweet baby girl and her family in their sun-filled apartment two weeks ago and spent a wonderful morning getting to know them. Baby A had the teeniest little feet and I was immediately in love with her, along with her adorable big brother. After spending some time in indoors, we went for a walk to the local fire hall and enjoyed the fresh air on the first day of summer. Aline_0001Aline_0002Aline_0003Aline_0004Aline_0005Aline_0006Aline_0007Aline_0008Aline_0009Aline_0010Aline_0011Aline_0012Aline_0013 Aline_0034

Celebrating 40 years! | Toronto Family Photographer

kirby_0001 These four "kids" wanted to treat their parents to a family photo session in honour of their 40th wedding anniversary. Things have certainly changed since their original family of six! kirby_0002

We started on the street that they first lived on when they were married and then headed to the nearby local park.

9 adults and 6 kiddos.

One hot- sweaty-mess of a photographer. But well worth it!kirby_0003kirby_0004kirby_0005kirby_0006kirby_0007kirby_0008kirby_0009kirby_0010kirby_0011kirby_0012kirby_0013

Congratulations to this very sweet couple and the beautiful family they have raised together – they're certainly inspiring to us young folks just starting out! It was an honour to capture such a momentous occasion for them.

At the park with the C Family | Toronto Family Photographer

One of my biggest goals for this year is to stay on top of my blogging! I love sharing my work and this blog is a great way to give my awesome clients a sneak peek of their session. Earlier last week I spent a sunny morning with this family of four.  Give me a cute baby and a pug to photograph and I'm over-the-moon. We started at home and then went for a walk to the park – the perfect start to my week!

Tyra + Tom go to prom! | Toronto Family Photographer

Last night was Tyra's prom (she's the daughter of our neighbour's who live one house over). It worked out perfectly that I was able to take a few shots of her and her boyfriend Tom just minutes before they left. Kyle and I are lucky that we unknowingly moved onto a street with so many wonderful families, and we have become good friends with many of our neighbours. It gives me such peace of mind to know that there are people nearby who genuinely care about us.  We babysit and cat-sit for one another, we take out trash bins, water and mow lawns, borrow and lend eggs (and garlic, honey, sugar, flour, black beans, wasabi, tomato paste, mayo…), and there always seems to be someone to pour a glass of wine or offer up a cold beer. Some of the families are "young families" like us, with preschoolers, toddlers and babies, while others are more "seasoned" with teenagers living in the house. It's always nice to hear the advice from those neighbours on raising kids as they have already been through all the things we are facing now. And the milestones seem to just keep getting bigger and bigger.

So while I prepare to send Robin off to Kindergarten this fall, Tyra's parents prepare to send her off to university. It's hard to imagine what that must feel like but I can only guess that it's a strange combination of pride, happiness and extreme heartache all mixed into one.

P.S. I also have to say that I really, really enjoyed taking photos of these two before they headed to prom.

Baby S | Toronto Newborn Photographer

We ventured to the "country" on the weekend and visited my family and met our new niece, Sadie Marie. It was a bit chaotic with over 16 people enjoying a sunny afternoon on the back deck – enjoying food, catching-up, kids jumping in the pool and babies crawling and climbing, and of course most of us passing around and oohing and awing over this tiny, adorable, 7-day old baby girl. Luckily we were able to break away for a little while to enjoy the beautiful countryside and capture some photos of this sweet family. Congratulations Amy, Justin and big brother Mason (who could not be with us on Sunday) – Sadie is beautiful and we're so thrilled for you!

spring family mini-sessions | Toronto Family Photographer

You had me running, laughing, sweating, sneezing, climbing over fences, blowing raspberries, trying on shoes about 7 sizes too small, jumping up and down, making some pretty strange monkey sounds, but most of all – you had me very grateful to have the job I do. A huge thank you to all of the wonderful families who came out to the mini-sessions last Saturday. It was a great day and I have finally narrowed it down to some of my favourite shots to share. Finally, spring is here and I couldn't be happier! I'm sure everyone else is feeling the same way too. I spent an evening in High Park with this awesome family last week. We had a great time exploring the woods, watching ducks swim and running around on the grass. It felt so good to be outside in the fresh air on one of the first warm days this season.
